Gordon “Wayne” Hayes, 75, of Clovis, died Monday, March 20, 2006, at Plains Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 24, 1930, in Barberton, Ohio, to Homer and Myrtle Hayes, he retired from the Air Force as a senior master sergeant after 30 years of service. He was a life member of Clovis Elk’s Lodge 1244, where he served as secretary.
Family members said he loved to play golf and cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Ernest Renner; and a sister, Carolyne Meeks.
He is survived by his wife, Jean A. Hayes; a son, W. Jon Hayes (and wife, Pat) of Clovis; a granddaughter, Amanda J. Hayes of Florida; a brother, Cleon “Bill” Billings (Audrey) of Stone Mountain, Ga .; a sister, Norma Romaine (Bill) of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and two aunts, Pearl Buck and Martha Dailey, both of Akron, Ohio.
Cremation has taken place.
Military honors will be conducted by the Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be his friends from Clovis Elk’s Lodge 1244.
Family members suggest memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
