McCready, Edwin

Edwin Deryl McCready, 91, of Clovis, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at Farwell Convalescent Center in Farwell.

He was born Aug. 22, 1914, in Kiersey, Okla., to Edward and Althia McCready.

He married Mary Lauice (Lois) Elrod in Durant, Okla., on April 26, 1942. He was a veteran, volunteering to fill a quota for the Bryan County, Okla., Draft Board from February 1941 until Oct. 22, 1941, and was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., attached to the 18th Field Artillery. Because of health problems, he received an Honorable Certified Disability discharge.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Southeastern (Okla.) State University in May 1948, and his master’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University in August 1956. He was high school principal at Blue, Okla., for two years before moving to Clovis in 1950. He was principal at Sandia school, then taught after that. He was an educator for 30 years. After he retired in 1978, he substituted in Clovis, Texico, and Farwell schools.

He was a member of 16th and Pile Church of Christ and family members said he loved the Lord and was active in the church before his health failed him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mildred McCready, Billie Jean Brand and Lynda Brown and one brother, Gerald McCready.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Kem Edwin McCready (and wife Valerie) of Midland, Texas; two sisters, Louree Moor (Bill) of New Braunfels, Texas, and Sylvia Bersheer of Katy, Texas; two grandchildren, Caitlin and Nate McCready of Midland, Texas; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Pressley (Perry) of El Paso, Texas, many former students and friends.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis. Jim Gammon will officiate.

Bob Geries, Steve Hoxie, Bob Norris, Kenneth Jones, Bill Blackard and Don McCasland will serve as pallbearers.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the 16th and Pile Church of Christ.
