Music concert
At 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school performing arts center 185 junior high choir and band students will present their Christmas program. Band director Cindy Stone and choir director Franklin Smith say this should be a memorable program with Handel’s “For Unto Us;” Holst’s “In the Bleak Midwinter,” as well as a collection of other traditional and modern Christmas songs. There is no charge for family and the public to enjoy this presentation.
Basketball schedule
Monday finds all four of the girls’ teams hosting the Marshall girls. The “B” teams play first, and using both gyms will speed the games along. That same day all four of the boys’ teams head to Clovis to play Marshall on their courts. The boys begin with the “A” teams facing off. Saturday the boys’ seventh and eighth grade “A” teams host Santa Rosa with tip off at 10 a.m.
Money talks
Principal Steve Harris offered his thanks this week to families and friends who supported the school fundraiser. The money generated by sales goes into the student activity fund.
Skills Tutor program set
Teachers are employing a new Internet-based program with some of their students. Students take an on-line pre-test, then Skills Tutor designs activities to practice needed educational skills. Students may access this program at school or at home, so it is beneficial to students who are ill and must miss quite a bit of school.
Second quarter ends
Thursday and Friday students will take their second quarter tests. Next week they finish the first half of the school year with semester tests.
Business careers classes publish
Students in Melody Ortega’s career classes have published a cookbook. These traditional and innovative recipes sell for $10. Students are also working on story books about a chosen career. These books will have illustrations as well as information about preparation for the job, duties, and pay in those fields.
Spanish classes a big bust
That’s what students will soon be doing — bashing their piñatas. This tradition includes a hollow container decorated for various holidays. Parents fill the piñata with candy, and children take turns trying to break it open. When that happens, all the children scramble to get the candy. Students are learning more about this Spanish tradition and creatively designing their own piñatas.
