KINGSVILLE, Texas — Seniors Derrick Hunter and Corey White have been chosen to represent Eastern New Mexico University on the West squad in the 2006 Cactus Bowl all-star football game on Jan. 6 at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Hunter led the Greyhounds in receiving in each of his four seasons and finished his career with 128 receptions, a school record, for 2,546 yards. He was an All-Lone Star Conference South Division first-team selection in each of the last two seasons.
White recorded 20 unassisted tackles and seven assists this season, and tied for the team lead with four pass breakups. He had primary coverage on the opponents’ top receiver each week.
Previous ENMU selections to the game were defensive tackle Nelson Smith (2001), offensive tackle Dustin Fish (2002) and linebacker Jeff Howard (2005).
White and ENMU senior guard Robert Acuna were also named to Daktronics Division II All-Southwest Region second team, as selected by NCAA Division II sports information directors.
Acuna helped the Greyhounds score 307 points in 11 games this season. ENMU set a school single-game rushing record with 475 yards in a 52-51 overtime loss at West Texas A&M on Oct. 8.
