Grace Ellen Madrid, 54, of Tucumcari, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1950, in Santa Fe, to Raymond and Lena Borquez.

She graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1969. She married Alex Madrid on June 3, 1976, in Amarillo. She worked as a pre-prosecution administrator for the district attorney’s office. She was elected to serve on the Quay County Commission in 2000.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Borquez; her grandparents, Mike and Grace Diaz, and Virginia Mascarenas; and an uncle, Mike Diaz Jr.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jeff Pacheco (and wife, Rachel) and Jonathan Pacheco, all of Tucumcari; four daughters, Nichol Madrid and Esperanza Madrid, both of Albuquerque, Angela Madrid of Truth or Consequences, and Alexandria Mayfield (Stan) of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren, Loren Madrid, Davianna Carlson, Karina Gonzalez, Markus and Desiree Mayfield, and Gabriel and Jacob Montoya; her parents; two brothers, Jimmy Borquez (Elmira) and Raymond Borquez Jr., all of Tucumcari; three sisters, Theresa Callahan (Ken) of Albuquerque, Christine Pacheco (Albert), Hope Ortiz (Fred) of Tucumcari; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari.

Father Leo Padget will officiate the services.

Cremation will take place.

Burial will held be at a later date.
