The Dora Future Farmers of America teams returned from State competition on Saturday afternoon. The following are the places individuals and teams won while there.
First-place teams
Agriculture Mechanics: Rudy Lopez, Johnny Lopez, Shawn Quick and Yancy Swift; Individual, Rudy Lopez.
Land: Austin Prewett, Kameron King, Wesley Skelley and Hector Fierro; Individual, Austin Prewett in first and Kameron King in fourth.

• School Board will meet Monday at 7 p.m.
• There will be a bake sale Thursday.
• The fourth-grade field trip to Santa Fe and Albuquerque is this Friday and Saturday. They will be going to the Capitol, Rattlesnake Museum, Albuquerque Zoo, and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.
• Prom is April 30.
• Spring Program is May 3.
State Spirit competition
The Floyd Bronco varsity cheerleaders recently went to Albuquerque to compete against cheerleaders from all over the state at The Pit. The girls placed first in the performance cheer, second in dance cheer, and second overall in state. The varsity cheerleaders are Renee Johnson, Darcee Chenault, Rebecca Blue, Blair Jaramillo, Brittany James, Carissa Swift and Amanda Meyers.

Baseball: Monday, Floyd at Elida, 4 p.m.
Track: Tuesday, Junior High Boys and Girls at Tatum, 3 p.m.(bus departs 1:15 p.m.); Thursday, Junior High Boys and Girls at Melrose, 3 p.m. (bus departs 1:45 p.m.); Saturday, High School Boys and Girls at Ft. Sumner, 9 a.m. (bus departs at 7 a.m.).

Child find
The Floyd Preschool is having a Child Find Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Children who will be four years old by Sept. 1 and are interested in attending our five-day preschool program should bring immunization records, birth certificate, and social security card. Screenings are also available for any child from birth through five years of age. There will be no preschool on this day.

Broad Horizons News
Progress reports were given out this past week in order to communicate every student’s current grades in each class.
We currently anticipate 27 seniors will graduate in May.
The Leadership Service class is planning a celebration for reaching their goal in their Pennies for Patients fund raising drive. They are now working on a new fund raising effort to support the upcoming “Relay for Life” to be held in Portales on April 22.
Students and support staff have three distinct efforts going to support cancer victims. There are about 20 students and several staff members recruited and volunteering to participate on the Broad Horizon’s Relay for Life Team.

RCEC scholarships
Congratulations to Shalie Anthony, Adrienne Coe, Ryan Dannelley, Casey Ford, Amber Griffin, Amber Kinsey, Dylan Radcliff, Audra Turner and Kelby Widener. All will receive scholarships from the Roosevelt County Electric Cooperative for the 2005-06 school year.
Coe recognized
Adrienne Coe of Elida has been honored for her exemplary service with a state-level Certificate of Excellence from the 2005 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. She was nominated for this award by Elida High School where she is a student.
Student-athlete honored
Coe was also selected to be in the top 15 percent of more than 20,000 applicants for the SportQuest All-American Award. Athletes were selected for their academic accomplishments, athletic achievements, and Christian character.

Track results
On Tuesday the junior high track teams headed to Texico. Tara Johnson earned high point girls’ honors at the meet while the eighth-grade girls’ team claimed second. The seventh-grade girls earned fourth place.
Matthew Salas and Junior Olivas claimed first and second place respectively in the boys’ discus. The eighth-grade team earned third place.
Thursday will find the teams heading to Melrose to face the conference teams again. The following week will find teams competing at three separate track meets.
Science classes wage war
Students in Laura DeBusk’s classes are applying the physics of motion and velocity and knowledge of simple and compound machines as they demonstrate these combinations with catapults teams build. Demonstrations will be in the football field Thursday morning as judges measure for distance and accuracy. Students will then evaluate the effectiveness of their designs. The activity culminates with a water war competition between teams.
School dance Friday
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FCA, invites Portales Junior High School students to a dance Friday from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Admission is $3 for singles and $5 for couples.
Biography time
Students in Donna Hammon’s English classes have read biographies and will be making oral presentations to their fellow classmates. Students must include visuals in their presentations.
