WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Sophomore guard Heather Brown tied her career high with 25 points and junior post Tiana Bryant added a double-double Saturday night to lift Eastern New Mexico University’s women past Midwestern State 80-73 in a Lone Star Conference South Division matchup.
The Zias (11-14, 5-7 South) moved ahead of the Lady Indians (9-16, 4-8) for fifth place in the division standings, beating them for the second time this season.
Brown converted 9-of-12 field goal attempts, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, while playing 39 minutes. She also scored 25 points last year in a win over Midwestern.
Bryant finished with 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting and also paced ENMU’s 42-30 rebounding margin with 10 caroms, while senior Mika Robertson added 13 points.
Top scorers for MSU were Katherine Maples with 16 points and Kelly Cleavinger with 13. Maples collected a team-high seven rebounds.
In addition to controlling the boards, the Zias won the game with the help of 50 percent field goal shooting (25-of-50) and 22-of-28 from the free throw line.
Midwestern shot 39 percent from the floor and converted 13-of-19 free throws.
