Glen Jackson Sizemore, 89, of Clovis, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1916, in Dallas, to Oscar and Ollie Jackson Sizemore.

He moved to Roswell in 1926. While in Roswell he attended school and at the age of 12 began painting some signs for the tourist places in Ruidoso. This started him on a lifetime of sign painting spanning about 70 years. He was known in the Southwest as one of the best in the business, a real artist. He had shops in Roswell, Albuquerque, and Clovis where he made all types of signs for many of the area businesses. His work is still seen all over town and over the highways in road signs. Family members said he loved what he did. The only lapse in his sign career was to start building road recreational vehicles in 1969, when he and his son Mike started Bison MFG Company but sold it a few years later to an employee. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and earned a rank of petty officer 1st class. He was stationed in Marthas Vineyard, New Port News, and Dallas Naval Air Station and was part of the original crew on the USS Boxer Aircraft Carrier. He married Lynn Goodman in 1949 in Clovis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence, Marvin, and Roy; and a sister, Lois.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Sizemore; two sons, H. Glenn Sizemore (and wife, Melody) of Rio Rancho and Michael Sizemore (Debbie) of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Wilson (C.J.) of Waco, Texas; a brother, Gene Sizemore (Debbie) of Dallas; four grandchildren, Scott, Andrew, Brian, and Amy Sizemore; two great-grandchildren; and countless friends and semi-adopted kids who still refer to him as “Big Daddy.”

Thomas P. Jones will officiate the services.

Cremation has taken place.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
