Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Officers responded Monday to a store in the 1000 block of Mitchell Street in reference to a fraud in progress.

A subject was trying to cash in stolen lottery tickets. When questioned, the subject said he had been given the tickets by a friend, who asked him to cash them. When questioned again, he said his wife had bought the tickets and asked him to cash them in.

Further questioned, the man said he did not know where his wife had bought the tickets.

The clerk said the tickets were stolen from the store at an earlier date. The subject denied any knowledge of the theft.

Further investigation revealed the man not only knew the tickets were stolen, but that his sister had stolen them. He was arrested and taken to jail.

Police responded Jan. 15 to a store in the 200 block of West Seventh Street in reference to a shoplifting complaint.

The clerk said a male subject entered the store and left with two 30-packs of beer without paying.

The subject was seen leaving the scene in a white vehicle.

Police were dispatched Jan. 14 to the 1500 block of Cameo Street in reference to loud music.

Once on scene, the officer was able to ascertain which apartment the music was coming from.

The officer went to the open door of the apartment and saw four males subjects inside, open containers of alcohol and cigar tobacco that had been removed from a cigar.

The officer asked to come in and he was granted access. In the kitchen he saw a marijuana pipe sitting on the kitchen counter. He went to the living room and told them what he had found.

Waiting for other officers to arrive, the responding officer asked the subjects if they had marijuana on them. He advised that they would only get a citation if they produced the marijuana. If they lied they would be going to jail.

One subject produced under an ounce of marijuana. He was cited for possession under one ounce and the pipe and the weed were entered into evidence. All subjects were released.
