Free tax preparation will be done this year by the AARP Tax Aide program for taxpayers 60 and older with middle and low income.

This new program replaces the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program that Clovis has had for years.

Volunteers will be working from Jan. 24 to April 15 at Baxter Hall, 908 Hickory St., and Walker Community Center, 316 W. 2nd St. Baxter will accept appointments only and the community center will only see walk-ins.

The dairy industry had a very strong year in milk production in 2004, possibly a record year, according to the economic research service of the United States Department of Agriculture.

Commercial uses of milk has hit new highs and farm milk prices have jumped more than a fourth from 2003’s average, the release shows.

Strength in milk prices has proved more persistent than earlier thought, however growth in milk per cow remains rather anemic, the release from the department shows.

The deadline for Foundation for Rural Service College Scholarship and ENMR Plateau Education Foundation College Scholarship is Feb. 1, according to a newsletter from ENMR Plateau. Completed applications must be postmarked to ENMR Plateau, 7111 N. Prince St., no later than Feb. 1.
