Lady Cats pound Lovington again

LOVINGTON _ The Clovis girls continued their unbeaten ways, past Lovington for the second time this season.

Clovis junior post Brittany Blackmon scored a game-high 25 points and fellow junior post Aimee Hilburn added 13 points in Clovis' 64-42 win that was decided before halftime.

Clovis coach Miles Watters said Blackmon and Hilburn played less than two quarters as Clovis improved to 17-0. He said Hilburn had at least a dozen assists although the coaches won't stat the game until after watching film.

“Those two overpowered,” Watters said. “Their size and jumping and passing ability was too much" for the smaller Lovington team.

“They’re a scrappy team, they just don’t have a lot of size.

With the starters in, Clovis rifled out to a 30-14 lead going into the second quarter.

“We were really sharp the first quarter,” Watters said.

The Lady Cats coasted from there.

Watters said the players who came off the bench coasted a little too much, not rebounding or playing defense as well as he would have liked.

“Our bench didn’t respond very well tonight,” he said.

Clovis beat Lovington (7-8) at home 85-31 in the first game of the season.
