Science Fair Assembly

Since all students will be deciding on a science fair project, science teachers have arranged for Dr. Keller from Eastern New Mexico University to present some ideas about various projects. Thursday finds students viewing various examples and listening to his ideas and suggestions. The Portales schools science fair is scheduled for March 5, and the regionals will be March 12.

Thanksgiving School Schedule

Portales schools will be closed November 24-26 to enable students and their families time to visit relatives and friends. Faculty and staff at the junior high wish each student a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Talent Show Highlights Students

The audience enjoyed over ten different performances Friday. Most of those were singing and dancing, and they were joined by a xylophone performance and a ventriloquist act.

Basketball Tournaments

The seventh-grade teams play in the Friendship Tournament at Portales Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The boys’ “A” team plays Bovina Thursday at 1:15 p.m., and the “B” team plays Yucca at 3:45 p.m. Champions will be decided Saturday at 5:45 p.m.

Girls action starts Thursday with the “A” team playing Bovina at noon while the “B” team plays Yucca at 2:30 p.m. Girls determine champions Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Eighth-grade teams head to Clovis for their competition. The girls face Houston at 2:00 in the new gym at Yucca. Their championship game is 1 p.m. Saturday. The eighth grade boys play Houston at 11 a.m. Thursday in the new gym at Gattis. The championship game is Saturday at 1 p.m.

Student success

Junior high teachers and support personnel have been meeting with parents of students with grades lower than desired to develop a plan of success for those students. By making students aware of the importance of their school work early in the year, all should be able to celebrate that final report card.
