Matadors beat up on Clovis

It was a tough Friday for Clovis against Sandia.

The Clovis volleyball team was swept 3-0, the boys soccer team lost 10-0 on the road while the Lady Cats fell 9-0 at the Yucca soccer complex, all in District 4-5A play.

Sandia beat the Lady Cats 25-14, 27-25, 25-15.

Clovis coach Darrel Ray said his team had a 24-22 lead in the second game, but let it slip away. Clovis finishes the regular season 5-15, 2-6.

The junior varsity volleyball team and ‘C’ swept their matches, 26-24, 25-18 and 25-11, 25-22, respectively.

Wildcat soccer coach Shaun Gill said his team played better in the second half, garnering more scoring opportunities, even though the Cats (6-13, 0-7) were down 4-0 at the half.

Sophomore Josh Bussen had 16 saves. The Cats were outshot 34-5.

The junior varsity Cats didn’t fare much better, falling 10-1.

Sophomore Kela Williams stopped 22 shots for the Lady Wildcats (4-14, 0-7) while sophomore Brittni Jimenez saved another five.

Clovis coach Larry Jones said Cassie Belford played well on defense.
