Celeste Alloy, 48
Celeste Alloy, 48, of Portales, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at her home.
She was born on Jan. 3, 1956, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Marie and Frank Alloy.
She moved from Brooklyn to Portales in 1971. She graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology. She began her career with the New Mexico Department of Human Services as a case worker on Jan. 3, 1978 and later was the supervisor for the Children, Youth and Families Department.
She was member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include a brother, Joseph Alloy of Albuquerque; a sister, Angela C. Alloy-Pickerel (and husband, Gary) of Albuquerque; and a number of close friends.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales. Erlinda Garcia will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.
Pallbearers are Sammy Garcia, Don Wilson, Gary Pickerel, Sherry Molder, Lydia Garcia, Lisa Leal and Joseph Alloy.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Joe Bollinger, 74
Joe Bollinger, 74, of Phoenix, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Phoenix.
He was born on April 25, 1930, in Portales, to Ruben and Josie Bollinger.
Family members said he was optimistic, had a creative spirit and a thirst for learning.
Survivors include two brothers; five children; 26 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services have already been held. Arrangements were by Chapel of the Chimes of Glendale, Ariz.
O.W. Cox, 73
O.W. “Blackie” Cox, 73, of Hobbs, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs.
He was born on June 15, 1931, in Lindsay, Okla., to Herbert and Opal Cox.
He married Jane Long on Nov. 7, 1993, in Hobbs. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Hobbs Lodge No. 63 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Valley of Las Cruces, the Ballut Abyad Temple in Albuquerque, the Lea County Shrine Club, past master Seminole Lodge No. 957 in Seminole, Texas, Seminole Order of Eastern Star.
Family members said he was involved in Little League baseball for over 30 years and served in the U.S. Army overseas during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bertie Evelyn Jackson Cox; and a son, Howard Wendell Cox.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Odis Cox (and wife, Cathy) of Hobbs, Kenneth Cox (Theresa) of Trinidad, Colo., Jack Moody Jr. (Catrina) of Odessa, Texas; five daughters, Denese Baker (Brent) of Bellevue, Neb., Beci Jones (Mike) of Lubbock, LaJune Gary and Zadine Hubbard, both of Midwest City, Okla., and Wanda Raye Watts (Wayne) of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Peggy Frazier of Mobeetie, Texas, and Clara Mae Farni of Beaumont, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Hobbs. Dr. Marty Akins will officiate the services.
Burial with graveside Masonic Rites will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Hobbs.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Duncan-May Funeral Home in Hobbs.
Memorial contributions may be made to VistaCare Hospice at 1515 Calle Sur, Hobbs, New Mexico 88240.
