Ernesto Gomez brings his smile to Community Services Center when he shows up to work. He enjoys living in Portales and meeting people at the CSC. Gomez also enjoys participating in Senior Olympics and wants to continue to do so every year.
What do you think of Portales?
“It’s a great place to live in. I live at Three Acres Ranch. I love working there. I moved to Three Acres. They have good food and I have good friends.”
What’s your idea of a perfect day?
“My perfect day is when I am with my brother, Alfonso. It’s a good day. We clean some tanks that have milo and wheat. I like it when my brother comes over.”
What is your fondest memory of Portales?
“I love it. It’s been good here. All of my memories in Portales have been good. I had lots of fund when I went to Clovis. I would go to the fair.”
Who’s invited to your dinner party and why?
“Margarita (Gonzales). She cooks for me. She fixes food. I would like to invite her over.”
What is your favorite TV show, past and present?
“I like many of the Mexican television shows. I like the soap operas and when they’re singing.”
What’s so great about your favorite sport?
“I like baseball and basketball. They are both fun to play.”
What is your favorite smell?
“I like the smell of freshly cooked beans and beef.”
What is your favorite taste?
“I like the taste of freshly cooked beef.”
What do you like best about your job?
“It’s good, I like it. I enjoy cleaning at the Community Services Center. I like the job and working with Twila Hurley and I get to go home at 4 p.m.”
If you could be a superhero, what would your name and powers be?
“My name would be the same and I would have the powers to clean a lot faster and to be able to clean everything.”
Tell us about your parents:
“My parents have passed away. I’m alone. My mom was a caring person. My mom and dad both liked to talk to me. They treated me good.”
If you could do one thing and money were no object, what would you do to make the world a better place?
“I would make the world a better place to live in with the help of God. God in heaven takes care of me. God already makes the world better.”
Who is your hero and why?
“Margarita Gonzales. She takes care of me. There are good people in Portales. Every day she takes care of me.”
Tell us something people might not know about you:
“I participated in the Senior Olympics. It went well. I was in the Frisbee throw, softball throw and basketball throw. I went to Las Cruces last week to be in the events. I loved it while I was there. I heard beautiful songs. I finished in second place in the Frisbee throw, third place in the softball throw and in fourth place in the basketball throw. I was in the 60-65 age group. I like it a bunch there. I hope I get to go next year.”
