Jimmie Haril Thornton, 72, of Kirtland, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at San Juan Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1931, in Liberty, Texas, to Paul Franklin and Eva Lena Thornton.

He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2182, the DAV, the Star in the West, in Minot, N.D., Masonic Lodge, and the San Juan Lodge No. 25 AF and AM.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa; three sons, Jon K. Thornton (and wife, Gorgonia) of California, Jac B. Thornton (Robin) of West Fargo, N.D., and Jeffrey W. Thornton (Jane) of North Berwick, Maine; a daughter, Jana L. Kaiser (Ken) of Helotes, Texas; a brother, Roy F. Thornton (Evie) of Clovis; a sister, Nadine Webb (Lynn) of Red Springs, Mo.; seven grandchildren; three step-children, Ernest, Juanita and Kevin Bumby; three step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Joe Byers officiated the services and Ted Bolte gave the eulogy.

Honorary pallbearers were the men’s Sunday school class of The First Baptist Church of Kirtland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to San Juan Cancer Center in Farmington or the charity of your choice.

Arraignments were by Chapel of Memories Funeral Home of Kirtland.
