Raymond Lee Fleming, 88, of Lubbock, died died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Lubbock.
He was born on Nov. 20, 1915, in Quero, Texas, to Ozias Denton and May Elizabeth Fleming.
He married Lula Marie Beall on Oct. 25, 1936 in Clovis. He worked as a farmer, ranch hand, carpenter, home-builder, shipbuilder, store-owner and car dealer. He served multiple terms as mayor for the cities of Melrose, Friona and Dimmitt, Texas. He had many trades, titles and hobbies during his lifetime, but in his soul, he was a builder. He built neighborhoods, communities, relationships, friendships, churches and most importantly a family.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ray Dean Fleming; and a daughter, LaVon Reeve; seven grand-children, Kipi Ward, Karla Dixon, Reese and Loyd Fleming, Jay Reeve, Julie Banfield and Jamie Epperson; 12 great-grandchildren, Haylee, Jalayna, and Brooklyn Ward, Dallas, Sasha and Trapper Dixon, Brittany, Ashley and Macy Reeve, Parker and Taryn Banfield and Emily Epperson; a son-in-law, Don Reeve; a daughter-in-law, Jan Fleming; three grandson-in-laws, Milon Dixon, Kirk Banfield and Casey Epperson; a granddaughter-in-law, Rhonda Reeve; three brothers, Lawrence, Fred and O.D. Fleming Jr.; and two sisters, Dorothy and Doris Jean.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Melrose Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 7 p.m. (CDT) until 8 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lubbock Children’s Home.
