Mr. Gerald Franklin Dorough, 87, of Clovis, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Retirement Ranch in Clovis.

He was born on July 9, 1916, in Mountain, Ark., to James and May Dorough.

He was married for 66 years to Bertha Dorough. He worked 41 years at Southwestern Public Service, retiring as a district manager and receiving the outstanding manager award numerous times.

Community activities included the New Mexico State Industrial Board, president and board member of the Clovis Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Committee of Fifty, treasurer of the Curry County Fair Board, and district governor of Lions International. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Clovis Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, the Clovis Noonday Lions Club, the Clovis Elks Lodge.

He joined the Curry County Mounted Patrol in 1948 and participated in the Pioneer Days Rodeo throughout his membership. He was named Outstanding Citizen for 1951 by the Clovis Junior Chamber of Commerce. With his wife, he was a member of the Good Sam Travel Club. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, cowboy activities, and conversing at local coffee clubs.

Survivors include his wife; a son Jerry (and wife, Phyllis) of Albuquerque; a daughter, Judy (Ron) Mershon of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Jim (Victoria) Dorough, Richard (Jackie) Dorough, Denise (Mike) Olson and Greg (Marianne) Mershon; and seven great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Steve McElroy will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Curry County Mounted Patrol members John Dickson, Lee Ross Hammond, Paul Dee Barnes, Ronnie Brooks, Richard Hadley, Bob Lacy, Dewey Pierce and Glenn Spriggs. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and other members of the mounted patrol.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
