Annie May Williams, 94

Annie May Williams, 94, of Bridgewater, N.J., died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Bridgeway Convalescent Center in Bridgewater.

She was born on June 29, 1909, in Causey, to David Bruce and Annie Laura Jordan Judah.

She and her family were the last of a generation of American pioneers who settled the southwest United States. Her family had traveled by covered wagon from Dallas to eastern New Mexico where they homesteaded. She graduated from Portales High School on May 22, 1928. The next day, she married Leroy N. Williams, in Clovis. They returned to the Rio Grande Valley after their wedding and had farmed in the Raymondville area since 1929. She was an artist who specialized in landscape oil paintings. She was an active member of the Willacy County, Texas, Art League, the Home Demonstration Club and the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers, D.B., Ernest, Frank, Fred, Alton and Sam Judah; a sister, Alma Grace Judah Lepper; and a son, David Lee Williams.

Survivors include a daughter, Annie Lou Williams Grimes (and husband, Donald) of Bound Brook, N.J.; three grandchildren, D’Aun Grimes Moore (Eric) of Las Flores, Calif., Jennifer Grimes Etheridge (Troy) of Plano, Texas, and Gregory Joe Grimes (Alison) of Irving, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Autumn Moore of Las Flores, Calif., and Isabella Etheridge of Plano; and numerous nephews, nieces and sisters-in-law.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. (EDT) Saturday at the Church of Christ, Ninth and Norman streets in Raymondville, Texas. Burial will be at Raymondville Cemetery in Raymondville.

The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. (EDT) on Friday at Duddleston Funeral Home, 604 West Hidalgo Street in Raymondville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Raymondville Historical Museum.
