Portales boys golf team snowed out

The weather had its way with the Portales boys golf team Monday at Ruidoso, but it wasn’t enough to stop Cassidy Merrick from hitting a qualifying leg across town.

Snow put a stop to the boys portion of the Leroy Gooch Invitational at Alto, but the Portales girls still managed to get in their round at Cree Meadows. Merrick hit the qualifying score of 96. Michelle Miller shot 104, while Roni Gomez posted a 112 and Oma Creighton 119.

Both teams will play today at Ruidoso, with the boys’ tournament reduced to an 18-hole affair.
