Lady Ram softball sweeps Eunice

EUNICE — The Portales Lady Rams softball team picked up their first two wins of the season in convincing fashion, outlasting Eunice 17-7 in nine innings in the opener and 15-1 in the nightcap.

“Their pitcher ran out of steam,” Portales coach Robbie Crowley said. “They did pretty well until that.”

Every player in the lineup for Portales (2-2) got a hit during an 11-run ninth that put game one out of reach. Leftfielder Sara Silva went 3-for-4 and scored four runs in the contest.

Crowley said that Lady Cardinals went through four pitchers during the doubleheader. Meanwhile, Portales senior Kassandra Richards pitched all 14 innings.

“She was pretty sore,” Crowley said of Richards, “but she fought through it and got stronger every inning in the second game.”

Rebekah Gonzales went 5-for-5 in the second game, while Erica Feliciano was 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two singles.

Portales returns to action Thursday against Ruidoso in an 8 a.m. game in the Dexter Tournament. The Lady Rams originally had a doubleheader scheduled at Roswell on Tuesday, but it was moved to March 30.
