CCC closes for employee training

The Clovis Community College campus will be closed on March 12. All staff and faculty will be participating in a professional development workshop — Skillfest 2004. Classes will not meet. However, the Health and Fitness Center, the Center for Student Success, and the Computer Lab will remain open for regular business hours.

Skillfest 2004 is a day designated by the Board of Trustees for professional development for employees. Workshops have been planned to address identified training interests or needs.

ENMU science fair needs judges

The Southeastern New Mexico Regional Science and Engineering Fair, to be held at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales on Saturday, needs volunteer judges.

No previous experience is required. Judges will receive refreshments and lunch.

Categories to be judged include: Behavioral and Social Science, Botany Computer Science, Medicine and Health Science, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Space Science, Microbiology, Engineering, Environmental Science, Zoology, Biochemistry and Mathematics.

Academic decathlon starts Friday

The New Mexico Activities Association will host the State Academic Decathlon on Friday and Saturday at Belen High School. The competition will host more than 100 of the most dedicated academic students in the state.

Clovis school officials said no Clovis area students are participating.

Students will qualify for an opportunity to represent New Mexico at the National Academic Decathlon in Boise, Idaho, on April 14-17.

Academic Decathlon is a team and individual competition composed of 12 students per team. The team members compete for individual medals by taking tests in art, economics, language/literature. The 10th event of the decathlon is the Super Quiz, combining a written test with a 45-question “lighting round” in front of a live audience.
