Greenwalt out for season

Clovis’ Cisti Greenwalt didn’t have long to enjoy one of her finest moments at Texas Tech.

Three days after setting the school record for career blocks, the 6-foot-5 junior fractured her right ankle late in the first half of Tuesday’s 73-69 win at Missouri and is out for the season.

Greenwalt will have the ankle surgically repaired today, according to her mother, Terri Greenwalt.

“She was so upset,” said Terri Greenwalt, who was at Tuesday’s game. “She cried all night. She told me she was going to play Saturday (against No. 1 Texas) but she can’t now.”

Terri Greenwalt said her daughter stepped on the ankle of a Missouri player as she was hustling to take the ball out-of-bounds and fell to the floor. Greenwalt was having a productive game with nine points, six rebounds and one blocked shot before she was injured with 4:11 left in the half. She did not return to the game.

“This is just another blow to our team,” Texas Tech coach Marsha Sharp said in a press release. “I feel bad for our players and our fans to have to endure this adversity. I have confidence that our team will respond as they have all season long.”

All-Big 12 guard Jia Perkins left the team earlier this season for undisclosed medical reasons.

Greenwalt, who helped Clovis win back-to-back state titles in 1999-2000, played in all 26 Tech games this year, starting eight of them. She was averaging 7.9 points and 5.7 rebounds a game, while leading the team in blocks with 57.

Greenwalt became the school record holder for career blocks Saturday at Texas A&M and has 195 in her three years at Tech.
