Anderson Plez Hickman, 83, of Fort Sumner died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his home.

He was born July 18, 1920, in Corona to John T. Hickman and Leesee Ann Rodgers.

He had 13 brothers and sisters.

He attended school in Corona until he was 13 years old, leaving after his mother died. He then worked at area ranches and farms.

He married Katherine Kendall on March 9, 1944, in Fort Sumner.

For many years, he worked in building construction, spending several years in Odessa, Texas, and Roswell.

He and his wife retired in Fort Sumner in 1986. He enjoyed woodcrafts as a hobby, family members said.

He was preceded in death by his wife on March 27, 1999, and by 10 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Hickman (and wife Paula) and Keith A. Hickman, all of Roswell; two brothers, Ira Hickman (Lilly) of Belt, Mont., and Ambrose Hickman (Elvena) of Taiban; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many good friends and neighbors.

He was cremated.

Burial was at Fort Sumner Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, Fort Sumner.
