Rosetta Lou Lindsey, 82, of Portales died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, in Las Cruces.

She was born in Des Moines, N.M., on Jan. 6, 1921, to Emerson and Ollie Smith. The family lived in Arizona, Colorado, Grenville, Ranchvale and Clovis. In high school, Rosetta met her future husband, Larkin Curry Lindsey Jr. They were married May 28, 1938, in Encino, N.M. They lived in Forrest, Field, Melrose and Portales.

A family member said Rosetta devoted her life to her family and to God, and she will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, a caring daughter and sister, and a true friend of many.

She attended First Baptist Church of Portales and was a member of the Adult I Ladies’ Sunday School Class, the East Valley View Homemakers’ Club and the La Escalera Art Guild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larkin Curry Lindsey Jr.; husband, Clyde Bennett; and two sons, Charles and David Lindsey.

Survivors include daughters, Patricia Bailey (and Harvey) of Henderson, Texas, Lois Crozier (Gerald) of Portales and Amarillo, and Lauretta Smith (A.C.) of Alamogordo; sons, Glen Lindsey (Libby) of Las Cruces, Don Lindsey (Kristy) of Corrales, Kevin Lindsey (Beth) of Portales, and Keith Lindsey (Shawndi) of El Paso; two brothers, Robert Smith of Pueblo, Colo., and Amiel Smith of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be sons Glen, Don, Kevin, and Keith Lindsey and nephews Robbie Smith, Mark Smith, and Lynn Lindsey.

Honorary pallbearers are sons-in-law Harvey Bailey, Gerald Crozier and A.C. Smith.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.

The Rev. Philip Fike will officiate. Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
