Laura King, 91, of Ruidoso, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Ruidoso Care Center in Ruidoso.

She was born on Aug. 22, 1912, in Buffalo, Mo., to Lettie and B.F. Bennett.

At the age of 4, her family moved to the Dora area where she attended school. She married William H. King on Sept. 3, 1927, in Dora. They farmed in the Dora community for over 50 years, during which she also drove a school bus, cooked in the school cafeteria and served as the Dora Post Mistress. In 2000 she moved to Ruidoso. Family members said she enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, horse racing and the family cabin. She was a member of the Dora Baptist Church and the Dora Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bernard and Revis Bennett; a sister, Avelyn Richards; a daughter, Connie Lynn King; and by her husband.

Survivors include a son, Wayne King of Ruidoso; three grandchildren, Vaunda Stenzel (and husband, Mike) of Ruidoso, Lanny King of Carlsbad and Tena Johnson of Bovina; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Herbert Bergstrom and Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Dora.

Pallbearers will be Gene and Jimmy Neal Richards, Lanny and Tim King, Mike Stenzel and Max Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mack and Marion Richards, Bo Shackelford, Doug Shafer, Billy Prater, Spooky Wilcher, Nathan Belcher, Bill Hagar, Elmer Reed, Delbert Bradley and Whiz Terry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Suite 1700, Chicago 60601-7633.
