A decorated Vietnam veteran will be the keynote speaker at Cannon’s 2004 prayer breakfast, scheduled for Feb. 11.

The speaker, Clebe McClary, is an author and motivational speaker. According to his Web site, after watching a group of college students burn the American flag in protest against the Vietnam war, McClary resigned a college coaching position in South Carolina, joined the Marine Corps as a lieutenant, and was severely wounded in action, losing an eye, an arm, and much of the use of his remaining hand in a bomb blast.

According to Cannon Public Affairs, McClary will explain how faith in God can sustain Cannon airmen in times of peace and war.

Cannon Staff Sgt. Thomas Cook was one of 87 enlisted airmen selected nationwide to enter the Air Force’s officer training school.

According to an Air Force Recruiting Service press release, Cook, a member of the 27th Comptroller Squadron at Cannon Air Force Base, was one of only about 30 percent of applicants who made the cut to become candidates for commissioning as an Air Force officer. The Air Force’s selection boards meet about every six weeks, and the most recent board selected Cook as one of 87 enlisted and 70 civilian candidates.
