Howard Looney, 79

Howard Looney, 79, of Clovis died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Southwest Regional Medical in Lubbock.

He was born on Dec. 23, 1924, in Bovina to Joe and Reagan Vassley Looney.

He was a resident of the Bovina and Clovis areas, and was a farmer and cattle rancher. He served in the U.S. Army. Family members said he enjoyed bass fishing and being with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Marcy Looney of Clovis; three daughters, Kay Hodges of Houston, Lee Brinley of Midland, Texas, and Lynn Cabe of Sherman, Texas; a son, Rush Looney of Bovina; two stepdaughters, Brenda Odegaard of Clovis and Lorie Sedillo of Edgewood; three stepsons, Billy Bagwell of Portales, Johnny Bagwell of Pennsylvania and Ricky Bagwell of Edgewood; a sister, June McMeans of Houston; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Santa Fe National Cemetery with Curtis Belcher officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons and granddaughters.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Muffley Funeral Home Chapel in Clovis with Joel Horne officiating.

Florentino Quintero, 36

Florentino “Tino” Quintero, 36, of Portales died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1967, in Portales to Micaela and Antonio Quintero.

He attended school in Portales and graduated from Portales High School in 1986. He worked for FoodTown/La Tienda and later as assistant produce manager for IGA Grocery Store. Most recently, he was employed by Milk Transportation Systems. Family members said he was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He always took care of his family and was a “father figure” to his many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Michael Quintero of Portales; four sisters, Lisa Dunstone (and husband, Chris) of Portales, Patsy Dauman and Grace Uihlein (Bill), all of Vicksburg, Miss., and Mona Quintero of Las Vegas, Nev.; and 13 nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Tobin Hitt will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.

Pallbearers will be Michael Quintero, Bill Uihlein, Chris Dunstone, Chris Uihlein, Adam Pacheco and Travis Scarbor.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
