Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:
About 9:40 a.m. on Jan. 7, Clovis police responded to a flower shop where an employee indicated that a window had been broken.
Officers found three small holes and a crack the length of the window, but could not find any projectiles in or around the business, and estimated the value of the window at $600.
A state employee called police to her office about 4 p.m. on Jan. 7 to report that someone had damaged her 2003 Ford SUV by shooting it with a pellet gun.
Police identified a small dent and chipped paint consistent with the report, but closed the case due to the reporting person’s statement that the damage had been done several months previously.
About 5:10 p.m. on Thursday, Clovis police responded to the 500 block of Maple where a resident said she had found the front door deadbolt unlocked and items strewn around the house when she returned.
Police took a report that a Magnavox stereo with two speakers, a Phillips stereo DVD player, a Magnavox stereo cassette player, and a 20-inch Magnavox television set worth a total of nearly $900 were stolen. Entry appeared to have been made via a bedroom window.
A junior high principal called police about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday to report that a fight had occurred just before school the previous day between two girls, one 13 and the other 14. Both were suspended and sent home.
Police reported that both would be issued juvenile citations upon returning to school.
About 1 p.m. Thursday, a Clovis business owner reported that an envelope with $500 was missing from his office.
Police took the report, including the owner’s assertion that it had to have been taken by an employee.
An area college called police about 11 a.m. Friday to report that a painting had been stolen from a campus hallway sometime between the end of June and the beginning of January.
The painting was titled “We run together — Tree of Wisdom” and was painted by Gloria Roybal. Campus security officials estimated it was worth $385.
Police determined that brake failure led to a crash on the corner of Thornton and 21st Street shortly before noon on Friday.
A 17-year-old Clovis male driving a 1991 GMC pickup said he was eastbound on 21st in the inside lane, saw a Volkswagen stopped ahead, tried but failed to get his car to stop despite pumping the brakes, and hit the Volkswagen doing minor damage to both vehicles. The 30-year-old female driver of the Volkswagen reported minor injuries and was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center for assessment and treatment.
The GMC driver was cited for defective equipment after his brakes were tested by police.
