Farkas promoted to production manager

Former Clovis News Journal news editor Tony Farkas is now the production manager of the printing and mailroom operations for Freedom Newspapers of New Mexico.

His promotion was announced this week by Ray Sullivan, FNNM publisher. He began his new duties last fall.

Farkas said, “I made the switch from editorial to production after 15 years because it gave me the opportunity to learn more about the news business and to expand my horizons.”

Farkas began working for the Clovis News Journal in 1984. He left the paper in 1986, then returned in 1989.

He’s worked as a photographer, news writer, page designer, copy editor and news editor. He also was managing editor of a sister paper, the Portales News-Tribune, for two years until returning to the CNJ in early 2003. Farkas also was interim editor for FNNM before taking on the Portales leadership post.

His duties now include overseeing all FNNM printing, not only of the newspapers but also its commercial print work. Plus, he heads up prepress production work and the mailroom operations, which include inserting advertising material into papers and bundling them for distribution.

Sullivan said, “The opportunity of having Tony step into the production role, along with his community ties, other work experience and his news background, made it a natural consideration. I look forward to Tony developing the press and mailroom teams so we can better serve our customers and their markets.”
