Nan Louise Bennett, 85
Nan Louise Bennett, 85, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
Mrs. Bennett was born March 29, 1918, in Muleshoe to James and Julia Clarke Smith. She married William R. Bennett Jr. in 1956 in Clovis. During WWII she ran the printing press in the government printing office in Washington, D.C. After returning to Clovis she was a bookkeeper for the State Theatre. She was of the Baptist faith. According to family members, Nan loved to play bridge, sew and travel, especially to Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chief Master Sgt. (ret’d.) William Bennett Jr.; three brothers, 1st Sgt. J.M. Smith, Capt. Burney H. Smith and Clark G. Smith; and a sister, May S. Walters.
Survivors include four nieces, Judy Gambill, Terri Bodine and Nicole Gurnsey, all of Clovis, and Michelle N. Streeter of Alta Vista, Calif.
The Rev. Mike Eberhardt will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers are Dick Ainsworth, Dan Abele, Marvin Whatley, Alice Ainsworth, Josefa Abele and Judy Whatley.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Childrens Home in Portales.
Services are at Graveside at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mission Garden of Memories Cemetery.
L.D. Rothwell, 79
L.D. Rothwell, 79, of Clovis died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Laurel Ridge Healthcare in Clovis.
He was born Dec. 10, 1924, at River Camp, Texas, to Lee and Neva Rothwell.
He married Ramia Lee Conway on Nov. 2, 1946. They moved to Clovis in 1947, and owned and operated Rothwell Body Shop until his retirement. He was a leader of Blacktower 4-H for many years, and a member of the Clovis Bass Club and Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Danny.
Survivors include his wife, Ramia Lee Rothwell of Clovis; a son, Larry Rothwell (and wife Carol) of Clovis; two grandchildren, Lance Rothwell (Elizabeth) and LeeAnne Rothwell, all of Clovis; two great-granddaughters, Taylor Rothwell and Kaitlyn Herrera; two brothers, Dewie Rothwell (Colene) of Brownwood, Texas, and Bill Rothwell (Nancy) of Childress, Texas.
The Rev. James Kelly will officiate the service.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Pallbearers will be Chris Cummins, Charles Eudey, Jerry Belew, Randy Harris, Carl Hahn and Anthony Jones.
Honorary pallbearers are Howard Cox and Ralph Brent.
Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Children’s Home in Portales.
Service are at 2 p.m. Monday at Steed-Todd Chapel, 800 E. Manana in Clovis.
Floyd C. Walker, 75
Floyd C. Walker, 75, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
He was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Rogers to William “Paul” Walker and Cala Fraze Walker. He graduated from Dora High School in 1947 and attended ENMU. On Dec. 20, 1947, he married Freeda Hitt in Portales.
He had worked for Barry Hardware, owned and operated A-1 Appliance Repair and then worked for Sears. Family members said he could “fix anything” and loved his ability to do so. People called him “Mr. Fix-it.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Claud Walker.
Survivors include his wife Freeda of the home in Clovis; a son, Ronald (and wife Doylene) of Roswell; a daughter, LaVeta O’Donnell (Steve) of Amarillo; two brothers, Troy Walker of Amarillo and Earl Walker of Portales; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Dr. Herbert Bergstrom, the Rev. Mike Eberhardt and Dr. Joseph Vest will officiate.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Daryl Walker, Jeffrey Walker, Cody Walker, Brian O'Donnell and Royce Tolar.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Obadias Ferrari, Marietta Perkins, Doug Williams, Willard O’Rear, Gene Hendricks, Tony Baca and the Clovis Fire Department EMTs.
