Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:
A Clovis man came to the police department on Dec. 30 to report fraudulent use of his credit card. The man said the receipt for a mail-order gift company had a name other than his own, and his credit card company told him to file a police report along with a copy of his billing statement.
About 10 a.m. on Dec. 30, police responded to the 800 block of Axtell where a tenant said two men had come to his residence and said they had been authorized by the landlord to cut down a tree because they needed some wood. After they left with the wood, the tenant decided to call the landlord and learned that he had not authorized cutting down the tree.
Neighbors said they had seen men cutting down other trees in the alley as well.
A gas station clerk called police about 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 regarding a man attempting to pass counterfeit money,.
The clerk said the man, described as a Caucasian male in his 50s, about 6-feet to 6-feet-2 inches tall, wearing a green jacket and ball cap and blue jeans, attempted to buy a $300 and $250 money order. The clerk informed him the money was fake at which time the man said he’d “try somewhere else.”
A restaurant owner called police about 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 to report a possible burglary.
The owner said he had found his rear door broken that morning. Police reported finding signs of forced entry. The owner said he could not find any items missing but that the door would cost about $1,000 to replace.
Police responded about 6:40 p.m. on Dec. 30 to the 2800 block of North Prince where an apartment tenant said she had been advised that another person had broken into her apartment while she was staying in Mexico and had been living there for that period.
The resident said two antique Mexican coins with a value of more than $400 each were missing.
About 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 30, police responded to a restaurant at the 1600 block of Mabry Drive where a 17-year-old employee reported his father’s lime green 1979 Chevy Impala had been stolen.
Police observed smashed glass on the ground where the vehicle had been parked.
