AMARILLO — A pilot returning from Tucumcari crash-landed his small plane Saturday at an airport south of Amarillo.

Robert Lea, 79, of Amarillo, was the only person on board the 1953 model Cessna 195-B.

He was taken to a local hospital for a possible hip injury, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Lea lost control of the plane during his landing after an apparent equipment failure, officials said.

Lea had owned the plane for 38 years.

The Federal Aviation Administration in Lubbock is investigating.
