Myrtle Mae Breuning, 90, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at her home.

She was born on Aug. 18, 1913, in Bellview to Alphus “Alf” Monroe and Mattie Ann Stafford Mitchell.

She was raised in and graduated from high school in Bellview. After graduation she attended Highlands Normal. She intended to major in music. She married Carl G. Breuning on June 12, 1932. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother until 1957, when she was employed as a clerk for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway System for 23 years. She retired in 1970. Family members said she loved to garden and travel after retirement, collect coins and watch baseball and football. She was of the Episcopal faith.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Albert, Leonard, Virginia and Bill.

Survivors include a son, Carl Breuning Jr. (and wife, Phyllis) of Calhan, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Maurine Mitchell of Portales and Bobbie Mitchell of Riverside, Calif.; a brother-in-law: Ralph Burnett of Grady; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place.

The Rev. Richard Reed will officiate the services in Las Vegas, N.M.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis.

Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories Cemetery in Clovis.

Honorary pallbearers are nieces and nephews, Mahota Ann Ritchey, Betty Jo Hargrove, Martha O’Rear, J.R. Burnett, Helen Meagher, Leonard Jr., George and Bill Mitchell and Debbie Dunford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charities of your choice.
