Leroy Hunton, 81, of Clovis, a retired building contractor, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1922, in Clovis to Herschel and Letta Lemley Hunton.

He was a 1940 graduate of Clovis High School and attended Texas Tech University. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He played tennis for Clovis High School, Texas Tech and the military and continued playing until his health failed. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and attended the Men’s Bible Class. Family members said he loved to hunt birds and game. He married Helen White on April 1, 1942, in Portales. He worked as a building contractor in Clovis and the surrounding area until his retirement in 1985.

He was preceded by his parents; a son, Jack; and a sister, Veneta Wheeler.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Leroy Brett Hunton (and wife, Melanie), Joe Hunton (Leslie), all of Albuquerque, and Roy Jim Hunton (Kelli) of Odessa, Texas; a daughter, Johna Bishop (Tom) of Powhatten, Va .; and six grandchildren.

Mike Eberhardt will officiate the services. Military honors will be performed by the Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers are Brent Webber, Bob Howard, Matt Aker and Randy Harris.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
