Urioste, Joe

Joe Ubaldo Urioste, 68, of Clovis, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born June 30, 1935, at Lawton, Okla., to Anastacio and Rita Encinias Urioste. He was the second of 17 children and most of his family grew up in Sena after the family moved to New Mexico. He worked as a Santa Fe Railroad trackman.

Family members said he thrived on adventure even from his childhood. He had various hobbies including his motorcycle, dancing, car racing and collecting vintage cars. He was a pool and card player, and loved his guitar. He was a single father for many years to his daughters. Family members said he loved to play with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Louis; and two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include six brothers, Daniel Urioste, Leo Urioste, Richard (and wife Anna) Urioste, Anastacio (Mary Helen) Urioste Jr., Leroy Urioste and Nick Urioste; four sisters, Sadie (and husband Esmael) Sandoval, JoAnn (and husband Ray) Martinez, Maryalice (and husband Bob) Trujillo and BarbraAnn (and husband Alfonso) Jaramillo; three daughters, Patsy (and husband Enrique) De La Garza of Mission, Texas, Jolene (and husband George) Chaparro, and Judy (and husband David) Barela all of Clovis; three sons, Joe Urioste Jr., Jimmy Garza and Paul Garza of Clovis; and 17 grandchildren

The Rev. Bob Trujillo will officiate the services. Burial will be at Sena Cemetery in Sena.
