Mrs. Velma Pearson, 92, of Elida, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on Dec. 2, 1910, in Stephenville, Texas, to Nora and Frank Hilburn.
Her family moved to Lamesa, Texas, when she was a girl. She married Carl Pearson on Nov. 19, 1928, in Lamesa. They moved to Elida in 1940 where she remained the rest of her life. She was a member of the Elida Methodist Church where, for many years, she was responsible for arranging for special music for funerals. In addition to making a home for her family, she helped her husband in the operation of their store and service station. She was active in the Elida Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Odell Hilburn and Troy Haney; several step-brothers and sisters; a daughter, Janice Morgan; and by her husband, Carl Pearson.
Survivors include a daughter Peggy Jones (and husband, Elmer) of Portales; six grandchildren, Jeffrey and Marcie Morgan, Julie Lyles, Sharon Olney, Karla McConkey and Patricia Richmond; 13 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Hilburn of Abilene, Texas; and three sisters, Marie Lybrand of Lamesa, Texas, Betty Kidd of Lubbock and Jean Godair of Snyder, Texas.
The Rev. Mary Sue Hull and Fred Anthony will officiate the services. Burial is at Elida Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Lyles, Jeffrey Morgan, Burl James Ansell and Jeff, Justin and Brian Victor .
