Take a virtual tour of England — it’s worth your time

Tom DiFrancesca

I’ve just returned from yet another trip to Great Britain — virtually that is. At the request of my friend Jason, who works for British Tours Ltd. — I re-visited their Web site at

http://www.britishtours.com/

and I’m glad that I did. This time, I got to roam the grounds of the Tower of London — at night. I’d have to say that the virtual tour of the Tower is probably the best that has been created for the British Tours Web site so far. Check it out and you’ll see what I mean. A number of additional tours have also been added — make sure, though, that you put on your virtual walking shoes before you jump over to the site.

“Carping about the excesses of clueless crybabies since the turn of the century.” is the motto of the folks behind the “Tongue Tied” Web site. This site is great at pointing out the inane attempts of the overly ambitious politically correct enforcers of the world. Just jump over to

http://www.tonguetied.us/

and you’ll either be amused or offended, depending on your political leaning, I suppose.

Dating — that is a term I have not had to use much in these past 12 years. Actually, I’m glad I don’t have to play the “dating game” any more. The world has gotten way too complicated and there just seems to be no set of standards to go by anymore.

Anyway, there is a young lady who aspires to be a literary icon someday and she has established a Web site.

Amy is a very talented writer and she is using that talent to share with her fellow world citizens, her trials and tribulations of dating. I can feel her pain, confusion and frustration.

I may not be dating now, but I used to and I can easily remember some of those trying moments. Talk about a mix of chemistry — I should have taken lots of science classes while in high school, it might have helped.

You can visit Amy’s Web site by going to

http://www.datingamy.com

and you can feel free to offer her your encouragement and, if you are feeling really philanthropic, you can even donate some money to her.

How often have you ever said to yourself, “You know, I’d sure like to visit the Antarctic someday”? What a coincidence — I’ve had that thought myself, more than a few times in my life.

Well, the next best thing to being there is visit it on the Web, and — can you believe it, there is a news Web site dedicated to the frozen “footlands” of the Earth? Just hop on over to

http://www.polar.org/antsun/

and you’ll learn all about the research activities that are taking place down there. There is also an archive of previous stories and of pictures that have been taken in the past.

Speaking of news sites — if we move north of the Antarctic just a little ways, we’ll end up in Australia. The “Aussies” have their own unique style of humor, most of it very similar to our British friends. That unique humor even shows up in the headlines of some pretty serious news stories. You’ll see what I mean if you go to

news.com.au/

Funny things is, I didn’t see any breaking stories about Crocodile Dundee.

Crikey.

By the way, if you didn’t already know it, The Urban Dictionary at

http://www.urbandictionary.com

defines “crikey” as “an expletive to express one,s surprise or happiness.”

“G’day” mate.
