Mrs. Edith Wyatt Thompson, 92, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Crown of Texas Hospice in Amarillo.

She was born on May 2, 1911, in Roscoe, Texas, to Noah W. and Mary Elizabeth Wyatt.

In 1927 she moved from Oklahoma to south of Friona, where she attended Jesko and Friona schools. She and her family moved to New Mexico in 1934. She married G.F. “Gabe” Thompson of St. Vrain. They farmed in St. Vrain until his retirement. In April 1995 she moved to Amarillo. She was active in Home Extension Clubs in this area. She was involved in local political elections for the Democratic Party and enjoyed very much working at the Curry County Fair. She was a member of the Baptist Church at St. Vrain and taught in the youth department of Sunday School there.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Gary Granvile and Gerald James; and six brothers, Henry, Ancil, D.C. “Doc”, Russell, Leland, and Arlis Ray Wyatt

Survivors include two granddaughters, Tonya Thompson and Kim McPherson (and husband, Stan) all of Amarillo; four sisters, Dona Burge of Topeka, Kan., Zula Carlton of Plainview, Texas, Maxine Howard of Clovis and Daisy Crowley of Carlsbad; a brother, Edward Wyatt of Goldendale, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Melba Widner Dzuick of Hereford; three great-grandchildren, Tayler Stewart, Ty Stewart and Drew McPherson, all of Amarillo; and many nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Roy Roach will officiate the services. Burial will be at Melrose Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Raymon Copeland, Grady Bright, Donald Hightower, Keith O’Rear, Terry and Ernest Crowley and Alvin Wyatt

Honorary pallbearers will be David Crow, Willard O’Rear, Harlan Sparks, Ty Stewart and Drew McPherson.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home in Clovis.
