Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

A city sanitation truck driver called police about 10:45 a.m. Nov. 25 to report that he had struck and severed a gas line in the alley between Prince and Lea streets south of Piersal Street.

The driver said he had moved over to the west side of the alley to let a vehicle go by and hit the gas meter with a dumpster being carried by the truck. Neither the truck nor the dumpster sustained damage, but the gas meter was pushed over doing damage to the ground pipes. Police cited him for a traffic lane violation.

A Clovis middle school assistant principal called police on Nov. 25 regarding a student who had been searched after being found smoking during the lunch period. The eighth-grade male had a pipe in his possession with residue of marijuana remaining in it. The student admitted to membership in a Roswell gang.

Police informed the student that they would be obtaining a warrant for his arrest on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police responded to the adult probation office about noon on Nov. 25 regarding a field visit to a 20-year-old Clovis man that turned up a marijuana “joint,” two burned marijuana roaches, a set of scales commonly used to measure marijuana, and other suspected drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested the man for violating probation, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shortly after midnight Thursday, police responded to a three-car crash with injuries at the corner of Thornton Street and Manana Boulevard.

Police determined that a white Ford pickup had hid a maroon Suburban, then hit a stop sign and finally struck a red and silver Ford pickup in a driveway on the 400 block of Manana.

The pickup driver was unable to complete field sobriety tests administered to him at Plains Regional Medical Center and admitted to being intoxicated. Police cited him for driving while intoxicated, no seatbelt, failure to obey a stop sign, and no headlights.

About 1:15 a.m. Thursday, Clovis police noticed a vehicle northbound on Ross Street that disregarded a “right turn only” sign at 21st Street and continued northbound. After stopping the vehicle, officers noticed the driver had a strong smell of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests.

Subsequent tests revealed breath alcohol levels of 0.09 and the driver was arrested for failure to obey a traffic control device, improper tail lamps, and driving while intoxicated.
