Reporter's Notebook
Has anybody seen George? He’s about 6 years old, weighs about 70 pounds and loves people.
George doesn’t speak the language. He grew up around Incirlik Air Force Base in Adana, Turkey.
He’s been missing about two weeks.
He jumped out of a back yard near the 1600 block of Sheldon Street and has been a wanted dog ever since.
John Considine, the civilian education flight chief at Cannon Air Force Base’s education center, said the tan-colored mixed breed broke away from a clothesline run and had to be dragging 20 feet of cable cord when he left the yard on Nov. 19.
Considine said he and George arrived in Clovis about two months ago from Turkey.
“He was less than a year old when my wife and I found him,” Considine said. “We tried to feed the animals we found outside the base; this one looked like he was about to die, so we took him in. He’s a very, very friendly dog. He goes up to strangers, he goes up to kids.”
Considine said he’s been working hard to find George, visiting the animal shelter daily, as well as with neighbors, and advertising in the paper.
Larry Rogers, an animal control officer with the city of Clovis, said Considine has provided the shelter with an 8-by-11 color photo of George. “We put it up on our lost dog board,” Rogers said. “It’s bigger than all the other pictures and it really stands out. The dog looks to me like a golden retriever or a shepherd. He has kind of a goldish color.”
If anybody has seen George, Considine would appreciate a call. The number is 742-3174.
