Arnita McCain Willmon, 91, of Clovis, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

She was born on May 18, 1912, in Smithfield, Texas, to Charles Robert and Nancy Jane Wilkinson McCain.

As a young woman she enjoyed singing with her three sisters, and playing basketball on the Pleasant Run 1929 championship team with her twin sister, Juanita, her first cousin and three friends.

They were nick-named the “Six Silly Sisters.”

She worked several years at General Dynamics and also at Dickies, where she sewed men’s work clothing.

She married Earl Willmon on June 19, 1943.

Family members said she was known as an excellent cook and seamstress and enjoyed craft projects and working in her yard and garden.

She was a gracious hostess and enjoyed domino parties playing “42.” She was a member of the Clovis Advent Christian Church for over 60 years.

She was active in the Women’s Home and Foreign Mission Society, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, sang in choir and ensembles and volunteered wherever needed.

Survivors include husband Earl; two sons, Ken Willmon (and wife, Charlotte) of Chandler, Ariz., and Mike Willmon (Leigh) of Clovis; a daughter, Nelda and her husband Tom Lobb of Kent, Wash.; four grandchildren, Stephen, Jeffrey, Megan and Margo; five step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Sunday School class and life-long family friend, Winnie Bell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clovis Advent Christian Church Memorial Fund, Salvation Army, Lighthouse Mission or Life Saver Food Bank.

Dr. Louia Gransee will officiate.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
