Jackson is no 'thriller' in some minds

Project: Reader Reaction

A recent Project: Reader Reaction question asked participants for their thoughts on pop star Michael Jackson. Some responses:

“I have never been a fan or tuned in to watch him perform. What little I have seen of his so-called performances — such as on newscasts when he is a news item because of some legal problem — his ‘singing’ is unintelligible, and he does not dance, but rather just postures.”

— Harold Burris, Clovis

“I am a Michael Jackson fan and will always be. I grew up on his music and he is a part of my generation. (She is 31.) I don’t know what to think about this latest scandal; there is not enough information released quite yet for me to form an opinion. However, I think it was pretty crappy for CBS to pull his upcoming special. Basically CBS is saying, although they deny it, ... he is guilty until proven innocent. I guess that’s how the entertainment world turns.”

Tanya Hughes, Clovis

“I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of Michael Jackson, but I do like some of his music. The charges being brought against him for child molestation should be looked at very closely. This isn’t the first time he’s been confronted with these allegations and the last time he bought his way out of it. It’s time they took a hard look at the activities that go on at his so-called amusement park and zoo.”

— Michael Williams, Clovis

“I have never been a Michael Jackson fan and I don’t believe that anyone in my age group (72) would be. It is too freaky seeing what he has done to his face. I think that the charges are an attempt to get some of his money.”

— John Frey, Clovis

“I was a Michael Jackson fan back in the early ’80s when he resembled some form of normalcy. If these accusations prove to be legit, I feel sorry for these once innocent children. I feel nothing but rage when I think about their despicable parents though. Why would they allow their children to spend the night with a formerly accused 45-year-old sex offender that dresses like a teenager and paints himself white? Is it possible that they were opportunists anticipating a possible lawsuit? Let’s hope not.”

— Richard Lopes, Clovis

“I liked some of Michael’s music but I don’t idolize humans. I do however believe our (court system) is based on innocent until proven guilty. If Michael is found guilty, I believe that no matter how much money he has or how famous he is, he should be treated as any other child molester. ... If found guilty, he should be put away in order to protect other

children.”

— Jim Sitterly, Clovis

“Some of his past music was good. However, that was the music and not necessarily the individual.”

— Bruce Ford, Clovis

“I have never been a Michael Jackson fan. Never intend to be one.”

— James W. McDonald, Clovis
