Howard, Wiley earn LSC first team honors

RICHARDSON, Texas — Junior linebacker Jeff Howard and junior cornerback Antonio Wiley represented Eastern New Mexico University on the All-Lone Star Conference South Division first-team defense, announced Wednesday by the league office.

Six Greyhounds were chosen for second-team honors — junior quarterback Steven Hinson, sophomore running back Dwayne Davis, sophomore wide receiver Derrick Hunter and sophomore guard Robert Acuna on offense, and juniors Brandon Wickware (line) and Adrian Quigley (linebacker) on defense.

Making honorable mention were junior offensive tackle Daniel Lujan, freshman placekicker Lee Price, senior defensive lineman E.J. Ume, junior defensive lineman B.J. Biggar and junior linebacker Courage Idemudia.

League and South Division champion Texas A&M-Kingsville led the way with 18 first-team, second-team and honorable mention selections. The Javelinas had the South’s offensive lineman of the year (Kevin Palmer), offensive back of the year (Daniel Taylor), defensive back of the year (Eddie Moten) and coach of the year (Richard Cundiff).

Other special awards went to West Texas A&M’s Anthony Armstrong (receiver) and Texas A&M-Commerce’s Derrick Crawford (defensive lineman) and Jarred Williams (linebacker).

ENMU went 6-5 in 2003 to claim its sixth consecutive winning season and the eighth in coach Bud Elliott’s 10 years at the school.
