Dorothy Beach, 74

Dorothy Reid Beach, 74, of Albuquerque, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque.

She was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Collingsworth County, Texas, to T.C. And Tommie Boutcher Raper.

She was a former resident of Clovis and had worked for Montgomery Ward as a bookkeeper. She married Raymond Lee Reid on July 20, 1948, in Clovis, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1973. She married Denzil Beach on Dec. 28, 1973, in Portales. Dorothy and Denzil moved to Phoenix where she worked for Shamrock Dairy as a bookkeeper. Denzil preceded her in death on April 2, 1994. She was of the Baptist faith. She moved from Phoenix to Albuquerque a few months ago to be near her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; four brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by one son, Raymond Reid (and wife Rita) of Woodridge, Ill.; two daughters, Sharon Scott (Ronnie) of Clovis and Geraldine Cress (Tom) of Albuquerque; one brother, Tip Raper of Vernon, Texas; five sisters, Thelma Sutton of Amarillo, Virgie O’Daniel of Childress, Texas, June Tait of San Jose, Calif., Neva Slayton of Balch Springs, Texas, and Joyce Thompson of Wichita Falls, Texas; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Steve Wheeler will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Scott, Tom Cress, Mike Jouett, Bob Walley, Larry Stapp, Randy Stapp, Bruce Foster, Matthew Reid and Johnny Gomez.

Honorary pallbearers include Sherri Gomez, Ashleigh Jacobs, Amanda Cress, Jackie Jouett, Dironda Walley, Kimberly Reid, Paul Foster and Cara White.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home in Clovis.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis.

Elbert Edge, 85

Elbert Muriel Edge, 85, of Clovis, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Bridges Retirement Manor in Clovis.

He was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Caddo Mills, Texas, to Ernie and Mary Edge.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and a life member of the American Veterans Roosevelt County Chapter No. 16. Mr. Edge attended school in Caddo Mills before the family moved to Mountainair where his father worked for the railroad. He married Lillian Jones on Aug. 12, 1939, in Mountainair. He entered the Army in 1944 and served in the European, African and Middle-Eastern theater of operations. Mr. Edge was wounded in Italy and received the Purple Heart.

He and his family moved to Portales in 1947. He worked for the railroad for a while and later went to work at Cannon Air Force Base as an auto mechanic. He retired from Cannon in 1981. Mr. Edge was an avid fisherman and liked working in his yard, family members said.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Sharon Best, and two brothers, Garland and Merril Edge.

He is survived by one son, Gary L. Edge (and wife, Janie) of Clovis; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Services are at 3 p.m. today at Portales Cemetery.
