Pedestrian killed when struck by car

An 80-year-old man was struck and killed by a motorist on the 2200 block of North Prince Street on Saturday night, police said.

Late Saturday night police identified the victim as Robert Grimm.

Sgt. John Corley of the Clovis Police Department said Grimm, whose hometown was not immediately known, was hit about 6:45 p.m. and transported to Plains Regional Medical Center immediately after rescue personnel arrived on the scene.

“Apparently the subject tried to run across the road and got hit,” Corley said.

The vehicle that struck the pedestrian was a small red pickup, Corley said. No passengers were in the pickup and the driver, Ryan Sattler, 20, was not injured, Corley said.

A press release from Clovis police said no citations have been issued in connection with the incident.

Preliminary indications are the collision was a result of pedestrian error, the release said.

Police diverted traffic off of Prince Street following the crash to conduct their investigation.
