Eldorado sends Lady Cats packing again

ALBUQUERQUE — Until the Clovis Lady Wildcats figure out how to beat Eldorado they’re doomed to play on the road in the Class 5A state volleyball playoffs.

Regular-season champion Eldorado completed a season sweep of the Lady Wildcats with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 win Saturday in the championship match of the District 4-5A tournament at EHS.

Clovis (18-4) plays at District 2-5A champion Las Cruces High this week in a 5A regional playoff match.

Eldorado (17-3) will host a first-round match as a reward for winning its third-straight district tournament title.

“They did what they always do to us,” Clovis coach Darrel Ray said. “They would jump out to an early lead and make us crawl back into it. Then we’d get a lead, but we’d make just enough mistakes to let them win.”

Senior Monique Walker had seven kills, four blocks and eight digs for the Lady Wildcats, while Alissa McDowell had10 blocks and Tara Ray 22 assists and eight digs.

Three of Clovis’ four losses this season have been to Eldorado.
