Beta Phi

Beta Phi members held a monthly business meeting on Oct. 6 with hostesses Mary Ann Vinson and June Patrick.

Correspondence was received from Theta Rho chapter of Farwell inviting District 1 to attend the district meeting on Nov. 8. Registration is 9:30 (MST). The philanthropic project for the meeting is to bring canned goods or non-perishable staples for Life Saver Food Bank.

Vinson said the pecans, mixed nuts and cashews have been ordered and should be in the first part of November. She gave a publicity report, stating that articles and pictures had been in the Clovis News Journal and the Whispering Winds (state ESA newsletter).

The chapter has received a check for the philanthropic project involving St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in conjunction with Albertsons Community Partners in Action. The chapter has also donated $25 to St Jude CRH in Vinson's name.

The social committee stated a recent breakfast at the Golden Corral in September was a success.

Educational director, Carman Richard gave an interesting program “ESA Around the World” where she sent out letters to various chapters around the world and is hearing back about their activities and fund-raisers.

Collene Baldwin has been awarded a 20-year service pin.

The next business meeting will be Nov. 3.

Encanto Garden Club

The Encanto Garden Club met on Oct. 14 at the home of Maggie Moore.

Betty Dunlap, president, presided and the Gardener’s Prayer was read.

Members answered roll call with their favorite garden tool.

Jacque Wuest gave a report on the High Country Gardens in Santa Fe.

An invitation to the District III meeting in Logan was received and answered.

New yearbooks and gardening calendars for the month of October were distributed.

Bulbs, plants, seeds and tubers were exchanged.

Pleasant Hill Women’s Club

The Pleasant Hill Women’s Club met on Oct. 16 with 17 members present at the Pleasant Hill Fire Department meeting room. A covered dish luncheon was served at noon by hostess Wanda Kelley and Hazel Eshleman.

Alice Pierce, president, called the meeting to order. Roll call was answered by “When Was Your Last Mammogram?” Minutes were read by Elsie Dean and approved. The treasurer’s report was given by Bertha Kelley and approved as read. Secret Pal names were drawn for cards on special occasions.

The program was presented by Paulette Wood on “Faux Painting.”

PRMC Auxiliary

“Hand washing is critical in preventing the spread of micro-organisms,” Joy Stoddard, register nurse, advised members of the Plains Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, as she presented a timely discussion on infection control.

Marion Pasternaki was recognized as Auxilian for the third quarter and was presented with a gold star pin.

Pat Weekley gave a report on the state convention of hospital volunteers held recently in Albuquerque.

Brian Bentley, PRMC administrator, then spoke on volunteerism and the value of the auxilians’ contribution to the hospital community. Paula Johnston, auxiliary president, presented a gift certificate in appreciation of his work to Wes White, interim administrator and current financial advisor.

The next meeting will be a potluck luncheon on Nov. 25 at Baxter Curren Hall. A book fair is scheduled for Nov. 6 and 7 in the hospital lobby. The annual bake sale is scheduled for Nov. 21.
