Bovina man stable after gunshot

A 36-year-old Bovina man is in stable condition at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock following an early Monday morning shooting in Clovis.

According to Clovis police reports, Juan Villarreal came to the Towne & Country store on the corner of Seventh and Thornton streets about 12:10 a.m. with blood running down his leg. Villarreal told the clerk he had been shot, and later told police he had been shot on the 800 block of Jones by a man who walked up to his vehicle and shot him in the leg.

Villarreal said after being shot he drove to the store; police found a large amount of blood in the car and later took a small-caliber hollow-point bullet into evidence that had been removed from Villarreal’s leg at Plains Regional Medical Center.

Villarreal was transported to Covenant Hospital in Lubbock following treatment at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

Clovis police reported they are investigating the incident as a case of aggravated battery, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, and assault with intent to commit a violent felony.
