Una Harris Smith, 89, formerly of Rogers, died June 27, 2003 in Portales.

She was born May 17, 1914, in Portales, to Samuel H. and Della Harris.

She graduated from Rogers High School in 1932. She married Odell Smith Jan. 6, 1934. She was a resident of Roosevelt County her entire life. She was active in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and belonged to the Silver Thimble Homemakers Club of Rogers. After moving to Portales, she joined First Baptist Church and served on the hospitality committee for many years. She was was a member of Golden Circle Sunday School class. Her hobbies included cooking, canning, fishing and family reunion outings in the New Mexico mountains. Family members said she had a passion for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and stepmother; her brothers, Leon and Orville Harris; her sister, Virgie Littlejohn; and her son-in-law, Billy R. Smith.

Survivors include her daughters, LaVerne (and husband, Holt) Irby of Garland, Texas, Louise Smith of McKinney, Texas, and Doris (and husband, Gerald) Devault of Lubbock; her son, Derrell (and wife, Jody) Smith of Waco, Texas; her sister Ola McCasland of Lubbock; three nephews, Arthur and Melvin Littlejohn of Portales and Jeff Harris of Baton Rouge, La.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.

The Revs. Dr. Herbert Bergstrom and Dr. Philip Fike will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joe Irby, Billy Smith, Jim Irby, Gregg Devault, Kendall Devault, Chad Smith, Scotty Smith, Mike Tunnell, Reed Anton, Stacey Petrich and Corey Self.

Wheeler Mortuary of Portales is handling arrangements.
